Rainy Bow Day

Yes another rainy day here and I either have a teething or sick baby.. one never really knows these things. An art project was in order to keep my toddler entertained. Listening to music again, I was listening to songs about rainbows. What a great idea.. make a rainbow.

I loved this project because it was somewhat challenging for my almost 3 year old. He had to concentrate on putting colors in their designated spots, using lots of glue, staying in the lines, etc. He was very serious about it and concentrated very hard. It was a good hour and half project. Then of course.. he had to add glitter at the end. Do your kids like glitter this much? It really is a lot of fun!

First draw the rainbow


Then cut pieces of construction paper. It doesn't matter what size or shape you make them.


Get them started by placing certain colors in specific spots. Tell them "green goes between these lines" etc etc


Start placing pieces of paper. I guess things are a lot easier with your tongue hanging out your mouth ;-)




Keep adding colors


Watch their faces in pure delight while making a big "mess" of glue


Watch toddler investigate the glue on his hand and decide whether he loves or hates it


Hold up proud art piece


Get out the glitter



Display Art on Wall

Toy Boat, Toy Boat.

There is a song that comes on frequently in our house.. it's called Toy Boat. It drives me crazy. I get it stuck in my head like no other and it won't depart.

Fittingly enough, we made a toy boat the other day. My psychosis from this song became useful during a cold snowy day stuck indoors.

You will need:
Popsicle sticks
glue
paper
cardboard
markers
and in our house, of course, purple glitter

If you have an infant, make certain you put him/her to nap first


Start by color the sticks




We made an "H" for Hudson on our boat and then added a lot of glitter to make it "pretty"




Then cut a small piece of cardboard


Glue the sticks to the boat. My son did this and had a good ole time.




We had skewers and I used that to put the sail on.

Little Man Knit Cardigan

I absolutely love making things for baby and kid! I love how tiny they are and just how fast you can whip something together. Plus, it doesn't take a whole lot of yarn. This sweater was made from some extra yarn that I had after making my toddler a hat. I made it with the thought that I would be bringing home a 8ish pound baby.. I brought home a 10 pound baby! Even though it won't close all the way, it's still hecka cute!




My little man sleeps a ton during the day, so there are not many opportunities to get a good eye opening picture. I guess if I waited until 4am, we'd be in luck.. but bad lighting at that time ;-)



Also, for littlest man is a sweater vest. There are buttons up the side and on the shoulder for easy handling. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to get a sweater over a baby's head. This is a 6-9 month old size, so pictures to come later.


I'm ready to start making him a couple of spring sweaters... I just need to make my way to the yarn store. With two kids that is quite the adventure these days.

A New Room

I decided it was time to update Hudson's (my oldest) room. I will take a before picture soon (as soon as the laundry is cleaned up..

Did I mention I had a baby a few weeks ago??

With the transition of bringing home baby, my son is sleeping in a different room with my husband. It's working for us now, but it's time to move him back to his room. I thought a good way to get him excited about leaving the "guest" room is to give him a new room.

We are doing a "city" theme.. sort of.. since we no longer live in the city. The first thing I made was a felt Brooklyn bridge scene. I covered a large canvas with fabric, fused the felt city scene, and then stapled the whole thing to the canvas.

Voila!

Lulu's Pixie Coat

My niece turned 1 today. I was so excited to make her this coat.. I love the color and the hood, so adorable. It was my first time to cable knit (gasp)! I can't believe it took me this long to do this technique.

I want to make a disclaimer: This sweater was pretty much complete before I had my second baby, I just had a couple of things to finish. so, the answer is "no!" I did not knit this right after having a baby.

Baby's First Snuggie

I love the concept of a Snuggie, but I can't quite bring myself to purchase one. That being said, I think they are genius for little babies. My main reason for thinking this is that my son likes to kick his blanket off when he is in his chair. If he is able to get it off, he will. The Snuggie I made him is also very warm for our cold house. No matter how much we crank the heat up, it's still really chilly in our living room. This is a great option for keeping little hands nice and warm.
